Araku, an expedition in wild woods

Began d’ trip from Visakhapatnam,
to Araku valley, on earth, a heaven
Enova slid on serpentine hilly roads,
on hairpin bends & gradient slopes
Heat declined, all in delighted mood,
to breathe pure air in d’ wild wood
 Uphill journey, enjoyed d’ greenery,
viewed with thrill, amazing scenery
Copious delight offered hilarious hills,
at caves halted d’ car with a screech

Bora caves, a starved dudgeon demon,
hungry mouth skywards lay wide open
A patient wait for a sumptuous lunch,
to engulf entrants and ready to munch
a stupefying will in tourists, to submit,
scope to explore d’ tummy, cool & quiet
Down the steps, got to bottom of d’ hell,
slimy sticky liquid smears, walls of d’ well
Darkness dispelled, by few electric bulbs,
artificially lighted labyrinths too superb

Pillars form Calcium rich drip from top,
stand in tranquil, confer roof-support
D’ K K line trains create scary quavers,
in spite of flaws, a cave monumentous

Reached Araku, a vast vibrant valley,
                            an agglomeration of plant mulberry
Carpeted the hills, over miles around,
cozy climate serene, no vexing sound
One mediocre bazaar, in d’ mini town,
APTDC resorts wait for warm welcome
Haritha’s elegant suites, for night stay,
from metros, their traffic jams far away
Ambience of dining room, evidently felt,
dainty dishes aptly cooked for d’ guests
End of a tiring tour, scrumptious meals,

than a folk dance by tribal lass of d’ hills
Saree-clad tribal women thirteen in all,
for their customary dance, set an altar
Hair neatly knitted & flower fashioned,
made a curved row with rhythm of drum,
Arms tangled arms, body forward drawn
danced around bonfire, in d’ Resort lawn
Sightseeing next day, pleasure profound
D’ day’s hustles over, had a sleep sound

Away from crowd, away from d’ world,
no morning newspaper, no cell network
D’ winter dawn rejoiced, chat in balcony,
viewed fog draped fields, hillocks alluring
Sipping flavored tea, with affable aroma,
next a drive to Machhkund & Dumduma,
Ineffable silence, in d’ mountain slopes,
lush green mulberry bush, in even rows
A monkey ably snatched, cold drink can,
ran a little far, gulped like a thirsty man

A view of Machhakund, Duduma dam,
Sangda in AP crossed, in Odisha it came
Motor trolley on a ropeway, d’ system
to reach to Machhakund dam’s bottom

In the lavish lap of the Mother Nature,
begot several tribes of casual creature
Yet too irascible, to the ire of nature,
that’s d’ mind set, myriad fear factor
Offer holy prayers in their own way,
with folded hands, rain God they pray
For flash flood fury and rain incessant,
appeal Him too, even d’ rainfall scant

Appease d’ pain God to alleviate pain,
Wind God to stop tornado, hurricane
Sun God, worshiped for heat and light
D’ Vigor God for, ample might to fight
pristine clan, venerate ancestral spirits
pacify by funeral dance, ritual washings
wailing, crying, dazing mortuary practice
subsistence in peril, d’ ghost soul survives
share d’ dead domestics & wild ones hunt
an unique disposal, not buried nor burnt
eat quasi cooked meat, dance war dance
D’ creature for food, if harbors anthrax
meat handlers open to a risk of contact,
develop grotty ulcers, a dermal anthrax

Visited weekly market in remote region,
a half day walk, to buy needs they come
Hills d’ safe-abode, freely move around,
multiple funny situations often we found
D’ Bonda tribe talk in a chirping manner,
like birds they communicate each other
curiosity not expressed, no verbal query
no attempt to explain civilization theory
women carry water, in tidy metal vessel,
containers on head, one above d' other

Ebony figure, distort features, thick lips,
for few photographs also, insist on tips
Lift offered to two guys, on back home,
as accompanied us, so demanded a sum
A human safari with several restriction,
no free talks, close proximity forbidden

Darkness enfolded us, as a solid shroud
hurried fast homewards, on a wild ride
left them in peace in their elegant abode,
expedition exciting in d’ wild woods over
